Shadowgraphy method
Measurement principles:
The shadowgraphy technique (backlighting) is used to visualise and
recognise droplets from a spray or bubbles in liquid. The method is
based on high resolution imaging with backlight illumination. The
technique is independent of the shape and material of the particles and
allows to investigate very small sizes an appropriate imaging system
and light source.
This technique provides information like size distribution, particle shape and particle velocity.
Advantages
- The technique is non-intrusive
- It gives accurate information about patricle size, form and velocity
- It is possible to use more cameras at one time --> stereo or 3D Shadowgraphy
- It allows to investigate small sizes down to 5 µm
